A cornucopia of 41 combined turnovers fueled this sloppy post-Thanksgiving contest; however, superior bench depth and rebounding in the second half carried the #22-ranked Washington Huskies to victory, 67-50, over San Diego.
Offensively, the Huskies misfired most of the game but then surged with a 26-point third quarter to seize the lead for good.
Significantly, this game also saw senior guard Elle Ladine return from injury.
Ladine contributed 9 points in 15 minutes on 50% shooting from two-point range (3 for 6) and 50% shooting from three-point range (1 for 2).

For the game, Washington shot 45.8% from the field overall (22 for 48); including 57.7% from two-point range and 31.8% from three-point range (7 for 22).
In the first half, Washington’s defense struggled to contain San Diego’s offense — the Tritons shot 45.5% from three-point range.
The Dawgs defense took control in the second half and brought the Tritons back to reality, finishing at 44.8% from the field overall; and 30.4% from three-point range for the game..

The Huskies bench dominated by scoring 32 points versus only 2 points by the Tritons bench.
The Dawgs also out-rebounded San Diego, 50-27; including, an offensive rebound advantage of 18 to 7.
UW Players of the Game: Sayvia Sellers and Avery Howell
Point guard Sayvia Sellers led the Huskies by scoring a team-leading 17 points in 38 minutes; as well as adding five rebounds; four assists; two steals; and one block.
Sellers only shot 38.5% (5 of 13) from the field overall; including only 33.33% on two-point attempts (2 for 6); but added a scorching 42.9% from three-point range (3 for 7).

Avery Howell had another strong offensive performance with 15 points in 39 minutes.
Howell shot 44.4% (4 of 9) from the field overall; and although scoreless from two-point range, Howell shot 50% (4 for 8) from three-point range.

Avery Howell also recorded a team-leading eight rebounds, plus one block and one assist.

1st Quarter
In the first period, San Diego used a 14-0 scoring run to knock the Huskies on their heels and seize early control of the game.
The red-hot Tritons shot 50% (8 for 16) from the field overall; and 50% from three-point range (4 for 8).
Adding insult to injury, Washington committed 8 turnovers in the quarter versus only 2 turnovers by San Diego
The Huskies shot only 29.4% from the field overall (5 of 17); but managed 50% from three-point range (2 for 4).
The Huskies were led in scoring by Avery Howell with six points; with Sayvia Sellers, Brynn McGaughy and Elle Ladine contributing two points each.
The Dawgs trailed by nine points to end the first period, 12-21.

2nd Quarter
In the second period, Washington improved its offensive efficiency by shooting 40% (6 for 15) overall; and 50% (2 for 4) from three-point range.
The San Diego Tritons began to struggle offensively, shooting 28.6% (4 for 14) from the field overall; yet still made 33.3% (1 for 3) from three-point range.)
The Huskies were led in scoring by Sayvia Sellers with six points; Sienna Harvey scored four points; Teagan Brown added three points; and Elle Ladine scored two points.
At the half, the Huskies trailed by three points, 27-20, behind San Diego.

3rd Quarter
In the third quarter, the Huskies offense outscored Southern 18-8 in the period, including a 13-0 scoring run powered by nine points from Brynn McGaughy.
The Dawgs made 60% (6 for 10) from the field overall; despite only 25% shooting from three-point range (1 for 4).
Washington’s defense smothered the Jaguars holding them to 17.6% shooting (3 for 17) from the field overall; and 0% (0 for 4) from three-point range.
The Huskies were led in scoring by Brynn McGaughy with nine points; Avery Howell with seven points; and Sienna Harvey added two points.
The Huskies jumped out to a 8-point lead, 53-45, heading into the final period.

4th Quarter
In the final period, Washington’s defense held San Diego to only 5 points, while the Huskies scored 14 points.
San Diego managed only 16.7% shooting overall; and 0% from three-point range (0 for 7).
Meanwhile, the Huskies shot a mere 36.4% (4 for 11) from the field overall; and 0% shooting from three-point range (0 for 2).
In the final period, Sienna Harvey led the Huskies with five points; Avery Howell added three points; and Sayvia Sellers, Devon Coppinger and Brynn McGaughy added one point each.
The still undefeated Dawgs (7-0) secured a 67-50 home victory over the UC San Diego Tritons (3-4).
