After a tightly contested first half, the Washington Huskies (3-0) defeated the Utah Utes (3-1), 87-56, with a third quarter 9-0 run to seize the lead, followed by offensive efficiency in the fourth to win comfortably down the stretch.
Powered by the commanding 30-point virtuoso performance of point guard Sayvia Sellers, the Huskies overcame a balanced scoring attack deployed by Utah that lacked the star power to counter Sellers’ explosiveness.
Washington shot 17.6% from three-point range (3 for 17); 46% from the field overall (31 for 68); and 54.9% on their two-point attempts (28 for 51).
Fortunately, Washington’s defense kept Utah’s offense under wraps all night, holding the Utes to 29% from three point range; 42% from the field overall; and 47% on two-point attempts.
UW recorded 48 points-in-the-paint versus only 30 points-in-the-paint by Utah.
Washington forced 16 Utah turnovers, while the Huskies only committed 11 turnovers.
UW Players of the Game: Sayviah Sellers and Hannah Stines
Sayviah Sellers was a dominant force for the Huskies, scoring 30 points in 38 minutes.
Sellers shot 52% (12 of 23) from the field overall; 66.7% from two-point range(10 for 15); and 25% from three-point range (2 for 8).
Sellers also recorded four rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
Hannah Stines was a key contributor to the Huskies 9-0 third quarter scoring run, by scoring inside on multiple layups; as well as making three key steals in that decisive period.
Stines scored 14 points in 33 minutes by shooing 58% (7 of 12) from the field overall; 63.6% from two-point range(10 for 15); and 0% from three-point range (0 for 1).

Hannah Stines also recorded eight rebounds, three steals, one block and one assist.
STARTING FIVE

1st Quarter
In the first period, the Huskies offense started slow, shooting 43.8% from the field overall (7 of 16); although Washington shot (a misleading) 33% from three-point range (1 for 3).
The Huskies were led by Sayvia Sellers and Brynn McGaughy with four points each; plus Hannah Stines, Sienna Harvey, Teagan Brown and Yulia Grabovskaia contributed two points each.
Meanwhile, Utah’s offense outplayed the Huskies early on by shooting 53.8% from the field overall (7 for 13); and 33% (2 for 6) from three-point range.
However, the Utes held on to a mere 4-point lead to end the first period, 20-16.
2nd Quarter
In the second period, Washington flipped the script and outscored Utah, 20-16, powered by an explosive 14-point outburst by Sayvia Sellers.
Washington’s offense did continue to struggle from deep as UW shot only 12.5% (1 for 8) from three-point range — and 45% (9-20) from the field overall.
However, the Huskies defense improved and held Utah’s offense to only 35.7% (5 for 14) shooting from the field overall; and 25% (1 for 14) shooting from three-point range.
The Huskies were led by Sellers’ 14 points; while Hannah Stines added four points and Devon Coppinger added two points.
Heading into halftime, the Huskies tied the game with Utah, 36-36.
3rd Quarter
In the third quarter, although the Dawgs rallied behind a 9-0 scoring run as they seized the lead early in the period and never looked back.
Washington only managed 15 points on 40% (6 for 15) shooting overall and 0% from three-point range (0 for 1); but the Huskies held Utah to only 9 points in the third period on 28.6% shooting overall (4 for 14) and 0% from three-point range (0-2).
Washington was led in scoring by Sayvia Sellers, Hannah Stines and Avery Howell with four points each; Brynn McGaughy added two points; plus Teagan Brown added one point.
The Huskies built a 6-point lead heading into the final period, 51-45.
4th Quarter
In the final period, Washington outscored Utah, 21-16, as they maintained control of the game with improved offensive efficiency.
The Huskies shot a relatively hot 52.9% (9 for 17) from the field overall — although, only 20% shooting from three-point range (1 for 5).
In the fourth period, Washington was led by Sayvia Sellers with eight points; Hannah Stines added four points; Teagan Brown scored three points; plus Avery Howell, Yulia Grabovskaia and Devon Coppinger added two points each.
The still undefeated Dawgs secured an impressive 72-61 road victory over the Utah Utes.
