Preview: #25 UW WBB Huskies Face First Road Test at Utah – Saturday, Nov. 15th @ 1pm

The #25-ranked Washington Huskies (2-0) travel to Salt Lake City to face the Utah Utes (3-0) on Saturday at 1 p.m. on the ESPN Plus Network.

The Utah program is a March Madness mainstay with four straight appearances in the NCAA Tournament.

Washington suffered a home loss in its last matchup versus the Utes on Dec. 14, 2024, 57-67.

Washington Huskies Preview

The undefeated Dawgs return to action after two consecutive home blowout victories versus Seattle and Montana, respectively.

Washington’s offense averages 88.5 points per game; while Washington’s defense holds opponents to 49.5 points per game.

Junior point guard Sayvia Sellers leads the Huskies team-leading 20.0 points per game; a team-leading 5.5 assists per game; as well as a team-leading 2.0 steals per game.

Courtesy of CBB AnalyticsSayvia is shooting a scorching 40% (4 for 10) from three-point range; while making 81.3% (13 for 16) of her two-point attempts; and converting 100% (10 for 10) at the rim within 4.5 feet.

Freshman Australian guard Sienna Harvey is UW’s (somewhat surprising) second-leading scorer at 12.0 points per game.

Notably, in Washington’s season opener versus Seattle, Harvey scored 15 points in 16 minutes.

Sienna Harvey really has benefited from increased opportunities due to the absence of Elle Ladine (who has missed the first two games due to an undisclosed injury).

6’0″ guard Avery Howell, the USC transfer, is the Huskies third leading scorer with 11.5 points per game; as well as the second-leading rebounder with 6.0 rebounds per game.

Howell is living up to her sharp-shooting reputation by making 62.5% from three-point range.

Yulia Graboskaia, the Michigan transfer, leads the Dawgs with 6.5 rebounds per game; and is UW’s fourth-leading scorer with 9.0 points per game.

Grabovskaia has been a dominant offensive force inside the lane for the Huskies by making 62.5% of her shots at the rim (within 4.5 feet); as well as 75% efficiency from further away in the lane.

As mentioned above, senior guard Elle Ladinehas not yet played for the Huskies this season. It is unclear at this time if she will play versus Utah.

Utah Utes Preview

The undefeated Utah Utes are coming off their victories over Sioux Falls, Utah State and Utah Valley.

Utah’s offense averages 84.3 points per game; while the Utes’ defense holds opponents to 55.7 points per game.

The Utes feature four players averaging double figures in scoring.

The Utes are led by Virginia Tech transfer Lani White, who is averaging 14.3 points per game.

A 6’0″ guard, White is a versatile three-level scorer: shooting 46.2% from three-point range; 80% on all two-point attempts; converting 66.7% at the rim; as well as 100% further away in the lane.

Brooke Walker is Utah’s fourth-leading scorer at 10.0 points per game.

The 5’9″ guard is an inside-out scoring threat that makes the occasional corner three (2 for 2); as well as scoring with high efficiency in the lane — 100% efficiency at the rim (within 4.5 feet) and 66.7% from farther away in the lane.

To secure the victory over Utah, the UW Huskies will need to disrupt the Running Utes by:

(1) playing tough transition defense to limit Utah’s fast break offense and force them to run a half court offense, as much as possible;

(2) limit Utah’s wide open three-point attempts with on-ball and off-ball defensive pressure and hard closeouts on shooters;

(3) efficiently execute the Huskies offense by limiting Washington’s turnovers to 12 or less;

(4) push tempo offensively against Utah to score in transition and take advantage of the Huskies roster depth and superior guard rotation;

(5) match or exceed Utah’s inside-the-paint scoring, with a target of 30 or more points-in-the-paint total by the Huskies.

A road victory in Utah by the Washington Huskies will be hard fought, but the Huskies have the depth and experience to manage a close victory within 10 points or less.
