Mack Konig can and will control the ball for extended periods during Montana offensive possessions.
Konig is a 66.7% three-point shooter that can shoot the three off-the dribble, as well as catch-and-shoot.
On-ball pressure is required to prevent her from dribbling into a three-point shot.
However, Konig is a adept at attacking on-ball defenders to drive the middle of the floor to get to the painted area where she makes 54.5% of her shots within feet of the rim; and 66.7% of her shots farther out in the lane.
6’3″ sophomore guard Avery Waddington was the Grizzlies second-leading scorer versus Oregon with 8 points.
She got off to a quick start, scoring 6 first quarter point versus the Ducks — she then when quiet, presumably, due to increased attention from Oregon defenders.
Waddington is s solid catch-and-shoot three-point shooter that will make the deep three over a casual closeout versus a hard closeout and contest.
To secure the victory over Montana, the UW Huskies will need to:
(1) Defensively set the tone with defensive pressure both on-ball and off-ball to speed up tempo of Montana’s offense and force turnovers;
(2) Montana struggles against team’s with superior size and length (23 turnovers versus Oregon), so the Huskies defense should set a target of 20 forced turnovers by the Grizzlies;
(3) push tempo offensively against the Grizzlies to score in transition and take advantage of the Huskies roster depth and superior guard rotation;
(4) efficiently execute the Huskies offense by limiting Washington’s turnovers to 10 or less; and
(5) dominate the Grizzlies with inside-the-paint scoring by the Huskies, with a target of 25 or more points-in-the-paint total.
A home victory by the Washington Huskies should be expected with a double-digit victory over Montana by the Dawgs of 20 or more points.
