In their final regular season game, the Washington Huskies (17-12, 8-9 B1G) host the Oregon Ducks (19-9, 10-67 B1G) on Sunday, March 2nd @ 2PM (also on the B1G + Network).

The Huskies hope to bounce back from a disappointing last minute loss to the Ducks at Oregon on February 12th — the Huskies lost 67-68 after losing a late fourth quarter lead.

Washington hopes to extend its current 3-game winning streak (wins over Rutgers, Nebraska and Minnesota) before entering the B1G 10 Conference Tournament next week.

Washington is currently averaging 73.0 points per game, while holding opponents to 64.6 points per game.

The Huskies are shooting 37.1% on three-pointers overall; 34.6% on straightaway threes; and excellent 43% on corner threes.

The Dawgs continue their high efficiency at-the-rim (within 4.5 feet) at 71.2% efficiency.

Washington’s scoring is now led by four players averaging 10 points or more per game: junior guard Elle Ladine (17.0 points per game); sophomore guard Sayvia Sellers (averaging 15.3 ppg); 6’4″ forward Dalayah Daniels (12.2 points per game); and junior guard Hannah Stines (10.0 points per game).

Oregon Ducks

The Oregon Ducks average 68.9 points per game, while holding opponents to 62.3 points per game.

Oregon shoots only 29% on three-pointers overall; 28.3% on straightaway threes; and a mediocre 30% on corner threes.

Oregon makes 60% of their attempts at-the-rim (282 for 470).

The Ducks are only 39.9% effective from further away inside-the-paint (5 feet or more).

Oregon shoots only 35.4% from the mid-range area (76 for 203 attempts).

The Oregon Ducks have only one player averaging 10 points or more.

Deja Kelly, a 5’8″ graduate guard, is the Ducks leading scorer averaging 11.4 points per game; along with 4.3 rebounds; a team-leading 3.4 assists; and 1.4 steals.

Kelly is primarily a mid-range scorer: shooting 42.1% from mid-range areas.

Surprisingly, the athletic Kelly struggles finishing at the rim (50% within 4.5 feet); as well as further away in-the-paint (38.4% beyond five feet).

Kelly is also a very poor three-point shooter (19.6%).

Peyton Scott, a 5’8″ graduate guard, is averaging 9.8 points per game; along with 2.4 rebounds; 1.4 assists; and 0.8 steals.

Scott is a good three-point shooter overall (33.3% on 26 for 78 attempts), including a very poor 14.3% on corner three-pointers.

Scott is a good finisher at the rim, making 62.5% of shots within 4.5 feet; as well as 48.3% from further away in the lane.

Two ex-Huskies Face the Dawgs

Ari Long a 6’0″ sophomore guard and Washington transfer, averages 2.8 points per game; 1.7 rebounds; 0.7 steals; and 0.5 assists.

Long is known for her three-point shooting, however at Oregon has mostly been a two-point scorer: shooting an excellent 53.6% on all two-point attempts (15 for 28); including a scorching 75% in the mid-range area (limited attempts).

Long has struggled from three-point range (25% overall on 11 for 44 attempts); as well as at the rim within 4.5 feet (55.6%); and from further away in the paint (33.3%).

Alexis Whitfield, a 6’2″ graduate forward and ex-Husky, averages 4.9 points per game; 2.7 rebounds; 0.8 assists; 0.8 steals; and 0.4 blocks.

Whitfield is a very effective mid-range scorer (45%); as well as effective shooting 33.3% on corner threes; and an average three-point shooter overall (30%).

Whitfield is a good finisher at-the-rim (converting 68% within 4.5 feet); yet struggles further away in-the-paint (32.4%).

To secure the victory over Oregon, the UW Huskies will need to:

(1) outrebound Oregon (35.2 rebounds per game vs 34.6 per game by UW) in total rebounds, while limiting their offensive rebounds (11.2 per game by the Ducks);

(2) tally more team assists than the Ducks (14.6 per game vs. 14.4 assists by UW);

(3) efficiently execute Washington’s offense to limit turnovers to 10 or less (UW averages 15.1 per game), while forcing 10 or more turnovers by Oregon (the Ducks average 13.0 per game); and

(4) make at least 33% of the Huskies’ three-point attempts — with at least eight (8) made threes.

Huskies Win Probability: 55%

Similar to the first matchup this season, this will likely be a close game throughout. Oregon’s strength is its team play that allows them to “win ugly” with limited offensive firepower but superior effort on defense and on the boards.

The Huskies will need to match Oregon’s effort and stay focused at both ends, playing a more well-rounded game of basketball than the Ducks to secure the win.

GO HUSKIES!
