UW WBB Huskies Lose Lead Late in, 67-68, Loss to Ducks

The Washington Huskies (14-11 overall, 5-8 B1G) were defeated, 68-67, by the Oregon Ducks (17-8 overall, 8-6 B1G).

Washington failed to execute on offense in the final minute of the game and fouled Oregon guard Deja Kelly twice and her three made free throws sealed the Washington defeat.

Washington held a lead over Oregon the entire fourth quarter until the final 12 seconds of the game; as Oregon outscored the Huskies 11-4 in the final four minutes of the game to steal the victory.

The Huskies defense kept Oregon’s offense under control most of the game: the Ducks shot only 41.7% from the field overall; 47.8% on two-point attempts; 52.4% in-the-paint; and 21.4% (3 for 14) from three-point range.

Meanwhile, the Huskies offense seemingly had its way against the Oregon defense most of the game: shooting 53.7% overall; a scorching 38.5% shooting from three-point range (5 for 13); 44% from mid-range; and 77.3% shooting at-the-rim.

The Huskies committed 15 turnovers in the game versus only nine by Oregon.

Sellers scored 21 points on 60% (9 for 15) shooting overall; and 75% efficiency from three-point range (3 for 4).

In addition, Sellers added five assists, three steals and three rebounds.

1st Quarter

In the first period, Washington’s offense started strong by shooting 53.8% (7 for 183 shooting overall; as well as making 40% from three-point range (2 for 5).

Meanwhile, the Oregon Ducks shot 42.9% overall (7 for 17) and 0% (0 for 2) from three-point range.

The Huskies were led by Sayvia Sellers and Elle Ladine with five points; Dalayah Daniels added four points; and Teagan Brown added two points.

The Huskies held a one-point lead over Oregon at the end of the first period, 16-15.

2nd Quarter

Washington’s offense was effective shooting 50% (7 for 14) from the field overall — despite shooting 0% from three-point range on 0 for 2 shooting.

The Ducks offense continued to struggle against the Huskies defense as they shot 38.5% shooting overall (5 for 13); and 33.3% shooting from three-point range (1 for 3).

The Huskies were led by Elle Ladine with six points; Sayvia Sellers, Hanna Stines, Dalayah Daniels, Tayre Eke and Breann McDonald added two points.

Heading into halftime, the Huskies led by five points over Oregon, 32-27.

3rd Quarter

The Huskies shot 53.3% (8 for 15) overall; and 50% from three-point range (2 for 4).

Meanwhile, Oregon shot 50% (8 for 16) overall and 20% from three-point range (1 for 5).

Washington was led in scoring by Sayvia Sellers and Dalayah Daniels with seven points each; and Hannah Stines and Elle Ladine contributed four points each — no one else scored for the Huskies.

The Huskies ended the third period leading by three points over the Ducks, 52-49.

4th Quarter

The Huskies held a six-point lead with 4 minutes left to play, 63-57.

Oregon’s offense then surged in the final four minutes of the game, outscoring the Huskies 11 to 4.

Oregon guard Deja Kelly fueled the final minute heroics to steal the win from the Huskies.

Kelly made one of two free throws to pull Oregon within one point of the Huskies, 67-66.

Kelly then fouled out Husky guard Sayvia Sellers by drawing an offensive charge.

On the next possession, Kelly was fouled again by the Dawgs and made both free throws to give Oregon the 68-67 lead. The Huskies were unable to score on their final possession of the game and suffered a crushing last minute loss.

The Huskies shot 58.3% from the field overall (7 for 12); and 50% from three-point range (1 for 2)

Meanwhile, Oegon shot only 35.5% overall (6 for 17); and only 25%
(1 for 4) from three-point range.

In the fourth period, Washington was led by Sayvia Sellers with seven points; Dalayah Daniels with four points; and Hannah Stines and Elle Ladine added two points each.

The Huskies were defeated by the Ducks, 67-68.
