The Washington Huskies (14-10 overall, 5-7 B1G) were defeated, 82-71, by the #16-ranked Maryland Terrapins (19-5 overall, 9-4 B1G).
The Washington Huskies jumped out to an early 15-4 first quarter lead at Hec Ed, but by the second quarter Maryland took the lead for good behind a 36-point career high by guard Kaylene Smikle.
The Huskies defense struggled defending Maryland’s multiple guard offense, as the Terrapins shot 50% from the field overall; 53% on two-point attempts; 88% in-the-paint; and 38.5% (5 for 13) from three-point range.
Meanwhile, the Huskies offense could not keep pace against the Maryland defense most of the game: shooting 42.4% overall — despite a decent 32.3% shooting from three-point range (10 for 31); and 77.8% shooting at-the-rim.
The Huskies committed 10 turnovers in the game; Maryland scored 19 points off Washington’s turnovers.

Ladine scored 23 points on 50% (9 for 18) shooting overall; and 55.6% efficiency from three-point range (5 for 9).
In addition, Ladine added three rebounds and one assist.
1st Quarter
The Huskies jumped out to a quick 15-4 lead over Maryland to start the game.
In the first period, Washington scored 27 points on 55.6% (10 for 18) shooting overall; as well as making 44.4% from three-point range (4 for 9).
Meanwhile, the Maryland Terrapins started slow by shooting 41% overall (7 for 17) and only 20% (1 for 5) from three-point range.
The Huskies were led by Elle Ladine with eight points; Dalayah Daniels added six points; Sayvia Sellers added five points; Hannah Stines and Chloe Brigs scored three points each; and Tayra Eke added two points.
The Huskies held an 8-point lead over Maryland at the end of the first period, 27-19.
2nd Quarter
Despite the Huskies leading by 20-8 late in the first period, Maryland stormed back behind a 25-9 scoring run to take the lead for good, 32-31.
Washington’s offense struggled mightily by shooting only 20% (3 for 15) from the field overall — despite shooting 33.3% from three-point range on 2 for 6 shooting.
Meanwhile, the Terrapins offense warmed up as they shot 50% shooting overall (8 for 16); and 75% shooting from three-point range (3 for 4).
The Huskies were led by Hannah Stines with six points; Tayre Eke added two points; and Chloe Briggs scored one point.
Heading into halftime, the Huskies trailed by eight points to Maryland, 36-44.
3rd Quarter
The Washington Huskies struggled to score 15 points in the third quarter, while the Terrapins responded with 21 points.
The Huskies shot 35.3% (6 for 17) overall; and 33.3% from three-point range (3 for 9).
Meanwhile, Maryland shot 60% (9 for 15) overall and 50% from three-point range (1 for 2).
Washington was led in scoring by Elle Ladine with ten points; and Sayvia Sellers contributed five points — no one else scored for the Huskies.
The Huskies ended the third period trailing by 14 points to the Terrapins, 51-65.
4th Quarter
Washington went on a 12-0 scoring run in the middle of the fourth period to pull within four points, trailing 67-63, with 5:24 left in the game.
However, the Huskies could not sustain a comeback effort.
The Huskies shot 56% from the field overall (9 for 16); but only 14% from three-point range (1 for 7)
Meanwhile, Maryland shot 50% overall (6 for 12); but came up empty from three-point range, i.e., 0% on 0 for 2 shooting.
In the fourth period, Washington was led by Sayvia Sellers with nine points; Dalayah Daniels with six points; Elle Ladine added five points; and Devon Coppinger added two points..
The Huskies were defeated the Terrapins, 73-81.
