Hot Shooting UW WBB Huskies Defeat Penn State, 82-71, for Road Victory

The Washington Huskies (14-9 overall, 5-6 B1G) defeated Penn State (10-13 overall, 1-11 B1G), 82-71, as the Huskies pulled away in the fourth quarter for a blowout road victory behind a hot shooting performance from all areas of the court.

The Washington Huskies defense did not prevent Penn State from shooting 55.8% overall; 65% on two-point attempts; and 75% in-the-paint. and only 24% (6 for 25) from three-point range.

 

However, Washington’s three-point defense put the clamps on the Nittany Lions from three-point range: i.e., Penn State shot only 11% from deep (1 for 8).

Meanwhile, the Huskies unleashed a three-point barrage against the Penn State defense, shooting 48% from three-point range (12 for 25).

The Huskies also shot 75% in-the-paint and 71.4% on two-point attempts.

Hannah Stines led the Huskies with 28 points on 61% (11 for 18) shooting overall; and 50% efficiency from three-point range (3 for 6).

In addition, Stines added five rebounds, three steals and one block.

 

1st Quarter

After multiple turnovers and some back-and-forth play, the Washington Huskies used an 11-0 scoring run in the middle of the first quarter to seize the lead

In the first period, Washington scored 26 points on 69.2% (9 for 13) shooting overall; as well as making 80% from three-point range (4 for 5).

Meanwhile, the Penn State Buckeyes shot 58% overall (7 for 12) and 25% (1 for 4) from three-point range.

The Huskies were led by Hannah Stines with eight points; Chloe Briggs added six points; Dalayah Daniels added five points; Sayvia Sellers scored three points; and Elle Ladine and Brenna McDonald added two points each.

The Huskies held an 11-point lead over Penn State at the end of the first period, 26-15.

2nd Quarter

In the second period, the Huskies gave up a 10-2 scoring run by Penn State which brought them back within four points.

Washington’s offense shot only 45.5% (5 for 11) from the field overall; and struggled from three point range (28.6% on 2 for 7 shooting).

Furthermore, the Huskies committed six turnovers in the second quarter.

Meanwhile, the Penn State offense warmed up as they shot 50% shooting overall (7 for 18) despite 0% shooting from three-point range (0 for 3).

The Huskies were led by Hannah Stines with five points; Sayvia Sellers with three points; Dalayah Daniels and Elle Ladine added two points each.

Heading into halftime, the Huskies clung to a 4-point leadt over Penn State, 38-34.

3rd Quarter

The Washington Huskies went on an early 5-0 scoring run early in the third period to extend an 8-point lead, but the Nittany Lions responded to keep the game close.

The Huskies shot 56.3% shooting (9 for 16) shooting overall; and 42.9% from three-point range (3 for 7).

Meanwhile, Penn State shot 53.8% (7 for 13) overall with zero attempts from three-point range (0 for 0).

Washington was led in scoring by Elle Ladine with ten points; Hannah Stines with six points; Chloe Briggs added three points; and Dalayah Daniels contributed two points.

The Huskies ended the third period with a 7-point lead over the Nittany Lions, 59-52.

4th Quarter

Washington went on a 9-2 scoring run in the middle of the fourth period to put the game away — although five turnovers by the Huskies kept Penn State within striking distance for awhile.

The Huskies shot 69.2% from the field overall (9 for 13); and 50% % from three-point range.

Meanwhile, Penn State shot 61.5% overall (8 for 13); but came up empty from three-point range, i.e., 0% on 0 for 2 shooting

In the fourth period, Washington was led by Hannah Stines with nine points; Elle Ladine with six points; Chloe Briggs and Sayvia Sellers added three points each; and Brenna McDonald added two points..

The Huskies defeated the Nittany Lions, 82-71.
