Buckeyes Pressure Sinks Huskies in Road Loss to #8 Ohio State, 56-66

The Washington Huskies (13-9 overall, 4-6 B1G) suffered a 10-point defeat at Ohio State (20-1 overall, 9-1 B1G), 56-66, as the Huskies struggled throughout to handle the Buckeyes fullcourt press defense.

Washington committed 25 turnovers whic led to 35 points off those turnovers by Ohio State.

The Washington Huskies struggles against the pressure defense by the Buckeyes resulted in a mediocre offensive performance: i.e., 40.4% overall (23 for 57); and only 24% (6 for 25) from three-point range.

Washington had some success defending the Buckeyes offense into a similarly mediocre offensive output: i.e., 18.2% from three-point range; while shooting 41% (25 for 61) overall.

UW WBB Huskies Player of the Game – Hannah Stines

Hannah Stines led the Huskies with 17 points on % (8 for 14) shooting overall; but only 20% efficiency from three-point range (1 for 5).

In addition, Stines added four rebounds, two blocks and one steal.

1st Quarter

Washington started the game strong with a 7-0 scoring run.

In the first period, Washington scored 16 points on 44% (6 for 9) shooting overall; as well as making 0% from three-point range (0 for 8).

Meanwhile, the Ohio State Buckeyes struggled by shooting 38% overall (6 for 16) and 0% (0 for 3) from three-point range.

The Huskies were led by Hannah Stines with six points; Dalyah Daniels added three points; while Sayvia Sellers, Chloe Briggs and Devon Coppinger added two points each.

Washington committed four turnovers, yet the Huskies led the Buckeyes at the end of the first period, 16-15.

2nd Quarter

Early in the second period, the Huskies and Buckeyes traded the lead back-and-forth — until Washington’s offense sputtered late in the quarter and Ohio State went on a 12-0 run.

Washington’s offense shot 29% (4 for 14) from the field overall; and continued to be scoreless from three point range (0% on 0 for 2).

Furthermore, the Huskies committed a whopping nine turnovers in the second quarter.

Although the Buckeyes offense heated up late, Ohio State only shot 39% shooting overall (7 for 18) and 25% from three-point range (1 for 4).

The Huskies were led by Tayra Eke and Hannah Stines with four points each; Dalayah Daniels added two points; and Elle Ladine scored one point.

Heading into halftime, the Huskies trailed by 10 points, 26-36.

3rd Quarter

The Washington Huskies went on an 8-2 scoring run to start the third period, including making their first three-pointer of the game.

Meanwhile, the Buckeyes shot 50% (6 for 12) overall and 66.7% from three-point range (2 for 3).

The Huskies shot 53.3% shooting (8 for 15) shooting overall; and 30% from three-point range (3 for 10).

Washington was led in scoring by Dalayah Daniels with eight points; Dalayah Daniels with five points; and Chloe Briggs and Sayvia Sellers contributed three points each .

The Huskies ended the third period with a 7-0 scoring run to pull within five points of the Buckeyes, 45-50.

4th Quarter

Washington opened the final period with a three-pointer to cut the lead to two points, 48-50.

However, the Huskies subsequently committed seven turnovers — a proverbial “shot in the foot” to any comeback hopes.

In the fourth period, Washington was led by Devon Coppinger with six points; Elle Ladine with three points; and Hannah Stines added two points.

The Huskies lost by 10 points to the Buckeyes, 56-66.
