UW WBB Huskies Rally Late, Fall Short, 70-73, to Indiana

The Washington Huskies (13-8 overall, 4-5 B1G) suffered a 3-point defeat to Indiana (13-7 overall, 5-4 B1G), 70-73, as the Huskies struggled for most of the night to defend the Hoosiers three-point barrage.

The Washington Huskies shot 53.7% overall (29 for 54); but only 29.4% (5 for 17) from three-point range.

For most of the night, the Washington defenders put up very little resistance to a Indiana Hoosiers offense that shot 56.5% from three-point range; while shooting 51% (33 for 46) overall; as well as 64.9% on two-point attempts.

Although the Huskies outscored the Hoosiers in-the-paint, 42-20, they were mostly trading contested twos for Indiana’s thirteen made (mostly uncontested) threes.

Washington was torched by the hot shooting of Indiana’s leading scorer, 6’3″ guard Yarden Garzon, who tallied 35 points on 80% (8 for 10) shooting from three-point range (again, most poorly contested).

UW WBB Huskies Player of the Game: Dalayah Daniels

Dalayah Daniels was (by far) the Husky with the best performance against the Hoosiers.

In 30 minutes, Daniels scored 21 points on 70% shooting at-the-rim (within 4.5 feet) and 100% from further away in-the-paint.

In addition, Daniels added four steals, three rebounds, two assists and one block.

1st Quarter

In the first period, Washington started the game with a 16-point quarter on 66.7% (6 for 9) shooting overall; as well as 66.7% from three-point range (2 for 3).

The Huskies were led by Dalayah Daniels led the Huskies with eight points; Devon Coppinger adde five points; and Chloe Briggs added three points.

Meanwhile, the Indiana Hoosiers posted a 21-point first quarter effort — shooting 47.4% overall (9 for 19) and 42.9% (3 for 7) from three-point range.

The Huskies trailed by 5 points to end the first period, 16-21.

2nd Quarter

In the second period, Washington’s offense slowed but scored 15 points by shooting 41.2% (7 for 17) from the field overall; and outright struggled from three point range by making only 16.7% from deep (1 for 6).

However, the Hoosiers’ offense could only muster eight points on 25% shooting overall (2 for 8) — although Indiana shot 50% from three-point range on limited attempts (2 for 4).

The Huskies were led by Elle Ladine and Sayvia Sellers with four points each; Teagan Brown added three points each; and Tayra Eke and Hannah Stines added two points.

Heading into halftime, the Huskies held a two-point lead, 31-29.

3rd Quarter

The Huskies came out of halftime and were jumped by the Hoosiers, who scored 30 points in the third period.

The Huskies defense was torched in every way possible by the Hoosiers shooting 83.3% (10 for 12) overall and 75% from three-point range (6 for 8).

The Huskies could only manage a 15-point scoring effort on 46.7% shooting (5 for 13) shooting overall; and 0% from three-point range (0-3).

Washington was led in scoring by Dalayah Daniels with seven points; while Sayvia Sellers, Elle Ladine, Devon Coppinger, and Tayra Eke contributed two points each .

The Hoosiers ended the third period with a 7-0 scoring run as the Huskies fell behind by 13 points heading into the final period, 46-59.

4th Quarter

In the final period, the Huskies began to fight back but ultimately ran out of time.

The Huskies went on an 11-0 scoring run, followed by a 7-0 scoring run to tie the game at 66 – 66.

Washington shot 69.2% (9 for 13) overall in the fourth period, including 40% from three-point range (2 for 5).

Indiana’s offense slowed to 40% (4 for 10) shooting overall but still made 50% (2 for 4) of their three-point attempts — including two three-pointers within the final two minutes by Yarden Garzon and Sydney Parrish.

In the fourth period, Washington was led by Dalayah Daniels with six points; Sayvia Sellers with five points; Elle Ladine and Devon Coppinger added four points each; Chloe Briggs added three points; and Hannah Stines added two points.

The Huskies last second shot by Hannah Stines missed and Washington lost by 3 points to the Hoosiers, 70-73.
