In their first road game of the season, after four straight home blowout victories, the Washington Huskies (4-1) fell hard to the Montana Grizzlies, 82-68.
The Washington Huskies did not pack their high-powered offense on this roadtrip — the Dawgs shot a paltry 14.3% (2 for 14) from three-point range; 30% from midrange (3 for 10); and built a brickhouse in the lane making only 42.3% (22 for 52) in the painted area.
The Huskies did manage to make most of their shots at the rim (within 4.5 feet of the rim), making 60.7% (17 for 28).
The Huskies struggled mightily to defend against the Montana offense both inside and outside — allowing the Grizzlies to shoot 35% from three-point range(6 for 17); a surprising 81% (17 for 21) at the rim; and 69.4% (25 for 36) in the paint overall.
1st Quarter
In the first period, the Montana Grizzlies outscored the Washington Huskies 22-10.
No Husky scored more than two points, as Washington was led by Dalayah Daniels, Sayvia Sellers; Elle Ladine; Breann McDonald; and Shayla Gilmer recorded 2 points each.
In the first quarter, the Huskies shot 22.2% overall (4 of 18) and 0% (0 for 1) from three-point range.
Meanwhile, the Grizzlies shot 55.6% overall (10 for 18) and 40% (2 for 5) from three-point range.
2nd Quarter
In the second period, the Grizzlies extended their lead to 19 points before the Huskies responded to pull within reach by halftime.
Montana shot 57.1% (8 for 14)from the field overall; and 50% (3 for 6) from three-point range to maintain control of the game.
The Huskies shooting improved slightly to 50% (9 for 18) shooting from the field overall; but UW shooters continued to struggled from deep – – 25% (1 for 4) from three-point range.
The Huskies were led by Dalayah Daniels; Sayvia Sellers; and Elle Ladine with five points each.
Hannah Stines; Tayra Eke; Shayla Gilmer; and Chloe Briggs added two points each.
At halftime, the Grizzlies held a 9-point lead over the Huskies, 42 -33.
3rd Quarter
In the third quarter, the Washington Huskies responded to adversity with a 10-2 run to pull within one point, 44-43.
Both Montana and Washington scored 16 points in the third period.
However, Montana’s offense continued to be efficient by shooting 50% from the field overall and 33% from three-point range.
Meanwhile, the Huskies shot only 31.8% overall and 0% (0 for 3) from three-point range.
Washington was led in scoring by Tayre Eke and Dalayah Daniels with six points each; while Sayvia Sellers and Chloe Briggs added 2 points each.
Montana held a 58-49 lead over the Dawgs heading into the fourth quarter.
4th Quarter
The Huskies missed their first five shots to start the final period as their comeback hopes fizzled.
Meanwhile, Montana’s offense stayed consistent and efficient by shooting 66.7% (8 for 12) from the field overall.
Washington’s offense floundered — 38.9% (7 for 18) shooting overall; and 16.7% (1 for 6)from three-point range.
In the fourth period, Sayvia Sellers made a last stand for the Huskies by herself, scoring 13 points with two steals and one assist in 10 minutes.
Elle Ladine; Hannah Stines; and Chloe Briggs added two points each.

In 21 minutes of playing time, Sayvia Sellers led the Huskies with 22 points.
Sellers was an efficient scorer in the lane, making 87.5% (7 for 8) of her shots in the paint, including 85.7% within 4.5 feet of the rim.
Sayvia Sellers made a blistering 75% of her shots overall (9 for 12); and added one three-pointer — shooting 33% from three-point range (1 for 3).
Sayvia also recorded a team-leading 4 steals and 2 assists.
