In their first 2024-2025 regular season game, the Washington Huskies (1-0) defeated the Seattle University Redhawks in a home blowout, 95-53.
Washington’s high powered offense was hitting on all cylinders: making 10 threes while shooting 37% (10 for 27) from three-point range; shooting 62.8% from two-point range; as well 53% shooting (37 for 70)overall; and 85% (27 for 53) from the free throw line
Washington defenders stifled the Redhawks offense which shot only 31.6% overall (18 for 57), including 17.4% from three-point range(4 for 23).
The Huskies interior defense did allow the Redhawks to make 70% of their shot within 4.5 feet of the rim (7 of 10 overall) — something the Dawgs must fix going forward.
Offensively, Washington scored 44 points in the paint, recorded 35 fastbreak points and scored 16 points off the Redhawks’ 17 turnovers.
1st Quarter
Newcomer Tayra Eke scored the Huskies first points of the season, sparking an offensive onslaught by the Huskies.
The Dawgs proceeded to go on a 16-0 scoring run to seize control over the Redhawks ,16-1, early in the first quarter.
The Huskies continued to come at the Redhawks in waves and finished the first quarter with a decisive 25-point lead, 28-3.
The Huskies were led by Dalayah Daniels with 6 points in six minutes; Elle Ladine with 5 points in six minutes; and Hannah Stines added five points in nine minutes of playing time.
Eight Huskies scored in the first quarter, in which the Huskies shot 47.6% overall (10 of 21); 25% ( 2 for 8) from three-point range and 100% from the free throw line (6 for 6).
Washington recorded 4 steals and 4 turnovers in the first period.
2nd Quarter
In the second period, the Washington Huskies continued to dominate the overmatched Seattle Redhawks.
Seattle U. scored 12 points; however, Washington doubled their scoring with 26 points on 62.5% (10 for 16) shooting overall; and 57.1% shooting from three-point range ( 4 for 7).
The Huskies were led by Teagan Brown with seven points; followed by Elle Ladine with six points; Shayla Gilmer added three points; and Dalayah Daniels, Tayra Eke, Devin Coppinger, Chloe Briggs and Olivia Anderson added two points each.
At halftime, the Dawgs held a 39-point lead over Seattle, 54-15.
3rd Quarter
In the third quarter, the Huskies cooled down from three-point range shooting 28.6% (2 for 7), but still managed 55.6% shooting overall (10 for 18).
The Huskies were led in scoring by Sayvia Sellers with 8 points; Teagan Brown with 5 points; 3 points each by Dalayah Daniels and Devon Coppinger; and Tayra Eke and Elle Ladine added 2 points each.
Washington held a commanding 77-32 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
4th Quarter
In the final period, Washington maintained a large lead by shooting 40% (2 for 5) from three-point range; as well as 46.7% (7 for 15)overall.
In the fourth quarter, Hannah Stines led the Huskies with seven points; Hannah Stines; Elle Ladine added five points; and Chloe Briggs, Breann McDonald, and Olivia Anderson added two pints each.

Elle Ladine led the Huskies in the lopsided victory by scoring 18 points on 70% shooting (7 for 10) overall and 66% (4 for 6) from three-point range.
