Recap: Upset! UW WBB Huskies Defeat #18 Utah in Road Blowout, 62-47

In their final regular season game, the Washington Huskies (16-12 overall; 6-11 PAC) upset the #18-ranked Utah Utes (21-9, 11-7 PAC) in a road blowout, 62-47.

Washington defenders stifled the Utes offense which shot 31.5% overall, including 18.5% three-point range(5 for 27).

Meanwhile, the Huskies offense was red hot from three-point range, shooting 53.8% (7 for 13); as well as shooting 52% (12 for 23) in the lane; and 50.9% (27 for 53) overall.

1st Quarter

The Washington Huskies jumped out to an early lead to seize control over the Utes,11-6, in the first quarter. — before both teams went scoreless for 3 minutes.

The Huskies were led by Lauren Schwartz with 8 points in 7 minutes; and Sayvia Sellers added five points in four minutes of playing time.

Although Utah went on an 8-2 scoring run, at the end of the first period, the Dawgs held an 1-point lead,17-16, heading into the second quarter.

2nd Quarter

In the second period, both teams struggled offnsively.

Utah only scored five points; however, Washington doubled their scoring with 10 points on 38.5% (5 for 13) shooting overall.

The Huskies were led by Hannah Stines with four points; followed by Elle Ladine, Dalayah Daniels, and Lauren Schwartz with two points each.

At halftime, the Dawgs held a 6-point lead over Utah, 27-21

3rd Quarter

In the third quarter, the Huskies surged offensively with 19 points on 57.1% (8 for 14) shooting; including, 42.9% (3 for 7) from three-point range.

The Huskies were led in scoring by Sayvia Sellers with 8 points; Elle Ladine with 4 points; Hannah Stines with 3 points; and Dalayah Daniels and Lauren Schwartz with two points each.

Washington held a commanding 12-point lead, 46-34, heading into the fourth quarter.

4th Quarter

In the final period, Washington built up a 19-point lead by shooting 63.6% (7 for 11)overall; and 100% (1 for 1) from three-point range.

In the fourth quarter, Lauren Schwartz and Dalayah Daniels led the Huskies with six points each; Hannah Stines and Elle Ladine added 2 points each.

UW Player of the Game: Lauren Schwartz/Sayvia Sellers

In Her last regular season as a Husky, Lauren Schwartz led the Huskies to a huge upset win by scoring 18 points on 70% shooting (7 for 10) overall and 50% (3 for 6) from three-point range.

Schwartz added 4 rebounds, 4steals, 2 blocks and one steal in 35 minutes.

Freshman guard Sayvia Sellers added 13 points on 55.5% (5 for 9) shooting and 100% from three-point range (3 for 3).

Sellers also added 3 rebounds, 3 assists and one steal in 27 minutes.
