On Sunday afternoon, the Washington Huskies (13-10 overall; 3-9 PAC) lost, 59-57, to California (15-10, 5-8 PAC ).
For the game, the Huskies struggled offensively: shooting 40.7% overall (24 for 59) ; including, 23.1% from three-point range (3 for 13).
UW was most effective scoring inside, 70.6%, at the rim (within 4.5 feet), but only shot 35.3% from farther out in the lane (6 for 17).
California’s offense exploited the Huskies on wing threes (37.% left wing/ 66.7% right wing) and at-the-rim (69.2% within 4.5 feet).
The Huskies were out-rebounded by the Golden Bears, 34-28.
Washington did commit less turnovers (10) than California (19) which kept Washington within striking distance until the final buzzer.
1st Quarter
The Huskies started slow as California jumped out to a 17-4 lead to start the game.
With under two minutes to go Washington’s offense woke up from its lumber and ran off five (5) straight points to get back in the game, 17-9, by the end of the first quarter.

The Huskies were led by Elle Ladine with three (3) points; and Lauren Schwartz, Dalayah Daniels, Chloe Briggs with two (2) points each.
The Huskies shot 28.6% overall (4 for 14) and 20% from three-point range (1 for 5).
2nd Quarter
In the second period, Washington outscored the Golden Bears, 20-14.
Washington shot 52.9% overall from the field, but went 0% (0 for 1) from three-point range.
CAL’s offense shot 46.2% overall but was held to 33.3% (2 for 6) from three-point range.
The Huskies went on a 7-2 scoring run to get within the three points of California, but CAL responded and led 23-16, with six minutes remaining.

However, at halftime, California held a slim 2-point lead over the Huskies, 31-29.

3rd Quarter
In the third quarter, California edged the Huskies in scoring, 14-10.
UW shot 38.5% overall; 0% from three-point range (0 for 1) and committed four (4) turnovers.

CAL held on to a six-point lead, 45-39, heading into the fourth quarter.
4th Quarter
UW outscored CAL in the final period, 18 to 14, but it wasn’t enough due to a crucial defensive lapse.
CAL’s leading scorer, Ionna Krimili (a graduate student with international experience representing Greece) scored eight (8) points in eight minutes to seal the game against relatively inexperienced sophomore Teagan Brown — a bad matchup which UW failed to switch (such as, to UW’s best defender Jayda Noble.)
In the fourth quarter, Dalayah Daniels led the Huskies in scoring with seven (7) points; Elle Ladine and Jayda Noble with five (5) points each; and Lauren Schwartz with one point.

Despite California going scoreless the last 3 minutes and 14 seconds, the Huskies fell two points short to CAL, 59-57.
UW Player of the Game: Elle Ladine/Jayda Noble
Elle Ladine had a good all-around game for the Huskies.
Ladine scored 12 points on 44.4% shooting overall (4 for 9) and 50% from three-point range(1 for 2); along with five (5) rebounds, two (2) assists and two (2) steals in 33 minutes.
Jayda Noble played efficiently and made numerous “winning plays.”
Noble scored five (5) clutch points on 50% shooting overall and 50% from three point range; along with two (2) offensive rebounds and three (3) steals.
