The Washington Huskies (12-6, 2-5 PAC) suffered a blowout loss, 62-44, on the road to UCLA (16-2, 5-2 PAC).
UW’s poor shooting for the entire game, as well as, poor defense in the second half cost the Huskies the victory on Friday night.
The Huskies shot 35.6% from the field overall, making only 18.8% from three-point range, and managed only 35.6% on two-point attempts (16 for 45).
Although UCLA only scored only 62 points (much less than their 84 points per game average), it was more than enough to beat the Huskies even with UCLA’s leading scorer, 6’7″ Lauren Betts, sitting out the game.
UCLA shot only 30.7% from the field overall, including 22.2% from three-point range and 35.4% on two-point attempts.
However, Washington’s lack of ball security contributed greatly to the blowout loss.
The Huskies committed 17 turnovers for the game (UCLA committed 13 turnovers) and UCLA scored 13 points off UW’S turnovers.
Huskies defenders forced six (6) steals versus five (5) steals by the Bruins.
With Betts missing for UCLA, Washington also failed to control the boards defensively, allowing UCLA to grab 18 offensive rebounds.
Overall, UCLA grabbed 50 rebounds versus only 37 rebounds by the Huskies
1st Quarter
The first period was marred by poor shooting from both teams.
The Huskies shot 25% overall (4 for 16) and attempted zero three-pointers (0 for 0).
Meanwhile, UW’s offense committed five (5) turnovers in the quarter.
Only Dalayah Daniels (5 points) and Elle Ladine (4 points) scored for the Huskies.
UW was outscored by the Bruins, 10-9
2nd Quarter
UCLA outscored the Huskies, 13-12, in the second period.
Again both teams played with sloppy and ineffective offensive sets.
Washington shot 37.5% overall (6 for 16) and 0% (0 for 3) from three-point range in the second quarter — with two turnovers.
Meanwhile, UCLA shot 18.2% overall and 27.3% (3 for 11) from three-point range — with one turnover.
Dalayah Daniels led the Huskies in the second period with 6 points; followed by Elle Ladine with 4 points; and Lauren Schwartz with two points.
The Bruins went into halftime with a 23-21 lead over the Huskies.
3rd Quarter
In the third period, UCLA and UW finally got their offenses more on track but the Bruins outscored UW, 23-15
UW’s offense improved somewhat in the third period, UW shot 45.5% from the field overall versus 42.9% by UCLA.
The Huskies took 32-29 lead but UCLA answered with a 9-0 scoring run to take a six-point lead.
At the end of the third period, UCLA held an 8-point, 46-36, lead.
UW was led in scoring by Chloe Briggs with six points; Elle Ladine with five points; and Hannah Stines with three points; and Dalayah Daniels with one point.
4th Quarter
UCLA cruised to victory in the fourth period by outscoring Washington, 16-8.
The Huskies shot 22.2% (4 for 18) overall and 0% (0 for 3)from three-point range.
In the final period, Hannah Stines, Dalayah Daniels, Sayvia Sellers, and Teagan Brown scored two pints each for the Huskies.
