UW WBB Huskies Advance to WNIT Great Eight with Late Surge Over K State, 55-48

In front of a raucous home crowd for the WNIT Super 16 game on Friday night, the Washington Huskies came back from an eight-point halftime deficit to Kansas State and responded with a second half surge that carried them to victory, 55-48.

Game Summary

1st Quarter

UW’s Trinity Oliver started things off with the first basket of the game.

Washington went scoreless for the last 6 minutes and 36 seconds of the first period.

Meanwhile, the Wildcats finished the first quarter with a 10-2 run that gave them a 14-9 lead to end the quarter.

UW was led by Trinity Oliver’s four points in the first period.

2nd Quarter

In the second period, the Huskies continued to struggle offensively.

UW was led by Lauren Schwartz, TT Watkins and Hannah Stines who tallied two points each in the period.

The Huskies made only one of their final nine shots (1 for 9) to end the second quarter.

Washington managed only 20% shooting overall and 0.0% from three-point range.

At the half, the wildcats held an 8-point lead over the Huskies, 25-17.

Washington finished the half shooting 37.7% overall and 5.0% from three-point range.

3rd Quarter

Washington outscored Kansas State 20-7 in the third quarter.

Trinity Oliver led the Huskies offensive explosion with 9 points in the third period, along with 1 rebound, 1 assist and 2 steals.

At the the end of the third period, the Dawgs held a 5-point lead, 37-32.

UW shot 53.8% overall and 16.7% from three-point range in the third period.

4th Quarter

The fourth period was tightly contested as Washington only outscored Kansas State by two points, 18-16.

However, Washington shot 50% overall (and 0.0% from three-point range) in the fourth quarter, as the Huskies held the lead down the stretch to secure victory, 55-48.

UW was led by Dalayah Daniels with 9 points and Trinity Oliver’s 4 points in the final period.

UW WBB Player of the Game: Trinity Oliver

By far, the most impactful player of the game was Trinity Oliver.

Oliver showed leadership throughout the game with her play offensively and defensively.

Trinity Oliver finished with 17 points (6 for 9), along with 8 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 assists.

This was quite possibly Oliver’s greatest game as a Husky in terms of all-around impact in a high stakes game.

UW advanced to the WNIT’s Great 8 to face a familiar rival, as the Washington Huskies host Oregon on Sunday, March 26th at 3pm.
