NIT Game Preview: UW WBB Huskies Host San Francisco Dons

The Washington Huskies (15-14 overall, 7-11 Pac-12, 12-5 at home) host the San Francisco Dons (20 – 11 overall, 6-5 on the road) on Thursday, March 16th at 7pm.

San Francisco Defense vs Huskies Offense

San Francisco holds opponents to an average of 66.1 points per game — while averaging 67.3 points on offense.

Per Synergy, the Dons use player-to-player defense (man defense) 84% of the time and allow 0.753 points per possession, which ranks in the Top 40% nationally.

By comparison, UW’s defense allows 59.7 points per game — while averaging 61.6 points on offense.

The Dons rank in the Bottom 15% nationwide in zone defense, transition defense and press defense.

Offensively, the Huskies face man defense 91.6% of the time this year and struggled mightily — averaging 0.709 points per game, which ranks in the Bottom 25% nationally.

This all suggests a tightly contested game that will likely be won by the first team to 60 points.

San Francisco Player Preview

Redshirt junior Ioanna Krimili is a 5’10” guard from Greece.

Krimili averages a team-leading 17.1 points, along with 3.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.2 steals in 32.5 minutes.

Ionna Kremili shoots 43.3% from two-point range and 41.2% from behind the three-point line.

Kremili’s shooting chart shows that she is efficiently dangerous from all areas of the court except in the lane.

San Francisco forward Debora Dos Santos is a 6’0″ redshirt sophomore from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Dos Santos is the Dons’ second-leading scorer at 13.0 points per game; along with, 7.5 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.7 blocks in 19.4 minutes.

Deborah Dos Santos shoots 55.2% from two-point range and has zero three-point attempts.

Her shooting chart shows that her offense is limited to inside the lane — she has only three shot attempts from outside the lane this year.

Seattle native Jasmine Gayles (West Seattle HS) is a 5’7″ senior guard that is the Dons’ third-leading scorer; she is averaging 10.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, 0.9 assists and 0.5 steals in 21.4 minutes.

Gayles is shooting 38.4% from two-point range and 32.0% from three-point range.

Her shooting chart shows that Gayles is most efficient shooting corner threes and three-pointers straightaway from the basket.

Kennedy Dickie is a 6’2″ senior forward and San Francisco’s fourth-leading scorer, averaging 9.3 points, as well as 7.7 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.6 blocks in 26.0 minutes.

To secure the victory over San Francisco, the Huskies will need to:

(1) limit Ioanna Krimili to an average offensive output, she is a seasoned veteran and the Dons offensive leader;

(2) dominate the Dons with inside-the-paint scoring by the Huskies, with a target of 30 or more points-in-the-paint total (at least 10 of those points by Dalayah Daniels); and

(3) efficiently execute the Huskies offense by limiting turnovers to 10 or less.

A home victory over San Francisco by the Washington Huskies is expected but it will not be easy if UW does not bring their A-game to HecEd.

Huskies Win Probability: 80%
