Game Recap: UW WBB Huskies Defeat Oregon Ducks, 68-60 on Senior Day

On Senior Day, the Washington Huskies (15-11 overall, 7-9 Pac-12) beat the Oregon Ducks (14-13 overall, 5-11 Pac-12), 68-60, and snapped a 10-game losing streak to Oregon.

 

 

The Huskies forced 15 turnovers by Oregon and and out-rebounded the Ducks, 33-29.

UW also outscored beat the Ducks in points-in-the-paint, 38-24.

In the first quarter, the Dawgs were led by Haley Van Dyke’s four points and three rebounds in 10 minutes.

At the end of the first period, Washington led Oregon, 16-14.

2nd Quarter

In the second quarter, Oregon outscored the Huskies 18 -11.

Washington was led by Dalayah Daniels, who had six points, one rebound and one block in 8 minutes.

At the half, Oregon led the Huskies, 32-27.

3rd Quarter

Washington came out strong to outscore Oregon, 18-6, in the third period.

Lauren Schwartz led the Huskies with nine points in the quarter.

Washington shot 53.3 % (8 for 15) overall and 50% (2 for 4) from three-point range, while holding Oregon to % overall (2-for-11) and 0.0%( 0 for 5) from three-point range.

The Huskies held the Ducks to six points — their lowest scoring quarter this season.

At the end of the third quarter, Washington led Oregon, 45 – 38.

4th Quarter

A fourth quarter offensive surge by Oregon saw the Ducks score 22 points in the final period.

However, the Dawgs responded by scoring 23 points to hold off the Ducks for the victory, 68 – 60.

Washington outscored the Ducks 41-28 in the second half.

In the second half, UW scored 12 points off Oregon’s turnovers versus only five points off UW’s turnovers by Oregon.

UW WBB Huskies Players of the Game: Seniors

All five Huskies seniors saw action and all contributed to Washington’s victory over the Ducks:

Haley Van Dyke scored 9 points along with 9 rebounds, 4 assists and one steal;

Darcy Rees scored 8 points, along with 4 rebounds;

Trinity Oliver scored 5 points along with 2 rebounds, 2 assists and one steal;

Emma Grothaus scored 5 points on 100% shooting — one three-pointer and two free throws; and

TT Watkins scored 2 points; and


Alexis Griggsby (who unfortunately sat out the season due to ACL tears).

 

We appreciate the contributions of all six seniors and we wish them all the best in their future endeavors (including the upcoming 2023 Pac-12 Tournament).
