In front of a raucous home crowd at HecEd, the Washington Huskies (13-9 overall, 5-7 Pac-12) started slow but finished fast and furious to upset the #2-ranked Stanford Cardinal (22-3 overall, 10-2 Pac-12) — UW’s first victory over Stanford since 2016.

The game featured a 21-point breakout performance by Huskies freshman Elle Ladine.
Ladine scored 10 fourth quarter points and added one spectacular assist to Haley Van Dyke, for a crucial layup down the stretch.
Game Summary
First Quarter
The game began with Washington scoring the first two baskets of the game and grabbing a quick 6-2 lead.

Then Stanford responded to UW’s strong start by building a 17-8 lead after one quarter.
Second Quarter
In the second quarter, UW responded with an offensive explosion that caught everyone, including Stanford by surprise.
The biggest source of shock and awe was a direct result of Huskies Coach Tina Langley picking freshman guard Elle Ladine to start the second quarter.
Ladine started the UW’s scoring binge by making a jumper within 30 seconds of the start of the second period.
This was followed by a made three-pointer by sophomore Jayda Noble with 8:45 to go in the second period.

Followed by a made layup by UW’s senior big Darcy Rees.
At the 6:48 mark , a steal by Ladine led to a UW fastbreak resulting in a layup by Dalayah Daniels to cut Stanford’s lead to 25-17.

Two straight pull-up jumpers by Ladine reduced Stanford’s lead to 28-21.
Later, an incredible twisting turnaround jumper by Elle Ladine in the paint cut Stanford’s lead to 30-23.

Ultimately, the Dawgs finished the second quarter with a 10-0 run, jumpstarted by a Ladine three-pointer with 2:03 left in the period.
Dalayah Daniels scored a buzzer-beating fastbreak layup to end the first half with the Dawgs leading, 38-34.
UW scored 30 points in the second quarter on 75% shooting overall and a perfect 100% from three-point range.
Elle Ladine finished the second quarter with a team-leading 11 points on perfect 100% shooting (a perfect 5 for 5 overall, including 1 for 1 from three-point range); as well as, two assists and zero turnovers in 10 minutes.
Senior Haley Van Dyke also had a strong second quarter, scoring 5 points (2 for 3 overall, 1 for 1 from three-point range), along with three rebounds, one assist and one block in six minutes.

Dalayah Daniels added six points and one assist in the second period.
Third Quarter
The third quarter began with a 6-0 run by the Huskies to give Washington a10-point lead, 44-34.

But then Cameron Brink’s layup started a 9-0 Stanford run.
The third quarter ended with a three-point “and 1” play in-the-paint to give the Cardinal a 54-53 lead.
Stanford outscored UW 20-15 in the third period.
The fourth quarter began with 5-0 run by Stanford to give them a 59-53 lead.
Then Elle Ladine responded with a three-pointer

A nice handoff by Daniels lead to a Ladine drive for a layup gave the Huskies a 67-65 lead.
The Dawgs finished the game with a 9-2 run. including two key free throws each by Elle Ladine and Dalayah Daniels in the final 17 seconds.
Ultimately, the Huskies outscored the Cardinal 19-13 in the fourth period.
For the game, Washington out-rebounded Stanford 34-24.
The Dawgs outscored the Huskies 64-50 in the final three quarters of the game.

But clearly Elle Ladine was the player of the game with a team-leading 21 points, 3 assists, 3 steals and one rebound in 28 minutes.
A historic breakout game for a Husky freshman that is not likely to be forgotten by anyone in attendance or who witnessed it on television.
Ladine’s stock is on the rise and Husky Nation is giddy with excitement for her future and that of the Washington Women’s Basketball program.
