In a sloppy game that featured 21 turnovers each by the Washington Huskies Women’s Basketball program and the SIUE (Southern Illinois University Edwardsville) Cougars, the WBB Huskies used a rebounding advantage, 50-30, and very poor shooting by SIUE (25% overall) to fashion a 71 – 40 blowout victory.
SIUE led by three points with 7:07 to go in the first quarter before the Huskies hit the gas and pulled away for the remainder of the game.
In the second period, the Cougars pulled within five points to start the second quarter, but the Huskies pulled away with a 10-0 run to go into halftime with a 36-22 lead.
In the third quarter, Washington shot 41% from the field overall and limited SIUE to two points to build a 26-point lead, 50 – 24, heading into the final period.
In the final period, the Cougars rallied to score 16 points causing UW Head Coach Tina Langley to briefly reinsert starters, Haley Van Dyke, Dalayah Daniels, and Trinity Oliver back into the game in the final four minutes.
Washington held on to their blowout victory over SIUE, 71-40, while shooting 47.7 % overall — 54.9% on two-pointers and 21.4% from three-point range.
