UW WBB Recruit AJ Marotte Decommits After Coaching Change, Commits to Oregon State

Washington, which entered a new era after hiring Tina Langley as head coach, got some bad news Wednesday regarding its highly rated 2021 recruiting class.

ESPN TOP 100 Player (ranked #63) Ashtynne “AJ” Marotte has decommitted from the University of Washington and will be attending Oregon State University.

In a statement on Twitter, Oregon State WBB announced Marotte’s commitment to Oregon State University.

AJ is a four-star recruit out of Cedar Park, Texas, who averaged 17.5 points, 8.6 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game in her senior season.

Marotte informed UDUBWBB.com that she had received a release from her National Letter of Intent(NLI) from UW and signed a NLI with Oregon State on Wednesday.

The 6-foot-1 guard/wing had been committed to Washington since March 31st, 2020.

Despite subsequently receiving increased recruiting attention, AJ was loyal to Washington after verbally committing to Jody Wynn.

When UW Athletic Director Jen Cohen fired former UW WBB head coach Jody Wynn, it set in motion future repercussions for the UW WBB roster.
