UW HUSKIES TOP INDIVIDUAL DEFENDERS vs. UTAH (2/19/21): Individual Possessions Defended vs. Field Goal Percentage Against

On February 19th, the Washington Huskies Women’s basketball team won their home game against the Utah Utes, 78 – 61, with nine Huskies scoring.

However, Washington’s defensive statistics were a mixed bag, not exceptional, despite the 17-point runaway victory.

Washington’s defense was most impressive in limiting Utah to 35.3% shooting from two-point range (12 for 34).

The Huskies also recorded four (4) blocks with two blocks each by Washington’s tallest player, Darcy Rees, and their shortest player, Tameiya Sadler — UW averaged 2.3 blocks entering the game.

Washington also recorded eight (8) steals — below their 9.3 steals per game entering the game.

The Huskies allowed Utah a decent 0.74 points per possession (ppp); however, the Dawgs made up for it by posting an excellent 0.92 points per possession (ppp) for the game.

Washington improved slightly by committing only 12 turnovers — they entered the game averaging 16.6 turnovers per game.

Washington’s individual defensive statistics were a mixed bag, as well.

Both Haley Van Dyke and Quay Miller recorded three steals each, six of Washington’s eight (8) steals overall.

Two Huskies held Utah offensive players scoreless in their individual defensive matchups — Khayla Rooks with four (4) possessions defended; and Jess Finney with one (1) possession defended.

The defensive player of the game was freshman Tameiya Sadler with an impressive ten (10) possessions individually defended; while limiting Utah offensive players to 11.1% shooting overall — in addition to her two blocked shots

Other notable individual defensive performances.

In addition to her two blocks, junior Darcy Rees individually defended seven (7) Utah possessions, and limited those offensive players to 28.6% shooting.

Besides her three steals, Haley Van Dyke individually defended six (6) Utah possessions, limiting Utah players to 20% shooting.

In addition to her three steals, Quay Miller, individually defended three (3) Utah possessions and limited them to 33.3% shooting from the field.

The Huskies look to get another home win versus Colorado on Sunday, February 21st.
