Chart Analysis: UW WBB Huskies Individual Defensive Performances vs. OREGON STATE (1/26/21): Field Goal Percentage Against vs. Individual Possessions Defended
On January 26th, the Washington Huskies Women’s basketball team lost their road matchup with the Oregon State Beavers, 98 – 68, in a game that wasn’t as close as the score.
The Huskies defensive scheme failed to slow down a three-point barrage from the Beavers, who made a team record 18 three-pointers against the Dawgs.
The Huskies’ three-point defense allowed the Ducks to shoot 61.9% from three-point range — significantly under-performing their 28.9% three-point defense average entering the game.
Washington couldn’t stop or slow down Oregon State’s Sasha Goforth who made four (4 of 5) three pointers while shooting 80% from three-point range.
Overall, the Huskies allowed an astounding 1.29 points per possession (ppp) by the Beavers.
Oregon State made nine (9) three-pointers against the Huskies’ man defense on 69.2% shooting.
Against the Huskies’ zone defense, the Beavers made four (4) three-pointers on 50% shooting.
The Huskies lost the rebound battle with 21 total rebounds versus the Beavers 36 total rebounds.
Although the Huskies managed to grab 13 offensive rebounds, they only grabbed eight (8) defensive rebounds for the game.
Meanwhile, the Beavers had 29 defensive rebounds and seven (7) offensive rebounds.
Washington’s offense struggled with 12 turnovers compared to 10 assists — a 0.83 Assist-to-Turnover ratio.
The Dawgs only made 29.2% of their three-point shots, as well as a mere 37.8% from two-point range.
Two Huskies had good individual defensive performances.
Redshirt freshman Nia Lowery held Oregon State players scoreless, while individually defending three possessions.
In 35 minutes of play, junior Haley Van Dyke Haley held Oregon State players to 25% shooting overall, while individually defending four (4) possessions.
All other UW players allowed a 50% or more shooting percentage overall by Oregon State players in their individual defensive possessions.
The Huskies look to bounce back on Sunday, January 31st against Stanford.
