Washington’s TT Watkins opts out of junior basketball season with Huskies over COVID-19 concerns

It is officially confirmed that Washington Huskies junior TT Watkins, a projected starter, opted out of the upcoming 2020-21 season and will not play.

According to the NCAA’s COVID-19 opt-out policy, T.T. Watkins concerns over contracting and/or transmitting COVID-19 allow her to opt-out of this season and retain her scholarship.

Last season, Watkins started 7 games as a sophomore and was a well-rounded catalyst for the Huskies.

Watkins shot 43.9% overall and 35% from three-point range; was 3rd on the Huskies in blocked shots (13); the team’s fourth-leading (total) offensive rebounder; while also contributing 20 assists and 17 steals.

It is expected that freshmen Alexis Whitfield and Jayda Noble will benefit most from increased playing time due to Watkins’ absence.

Watkins will still have two more years of eligibility.
