Washington faces San Francisco (6-4) at 6pm tonight, which could be a dangerous opponent, if taken lightly by the Huskies.
Dons Offense is Deep
San Francisco’s offense is rated very good against Man, Zone and Press Defenses.*
The Dons best weapon is their Pick & Roll Offense — USF is rated as excellent – but they use it only 11.6% of time.*
The majority of their Offense (45.6%) comes from Jump Shots — USF is rated very good at Catch & Shoot Jumpshots & Jumpers Off-the-Dribble.*
The Dons shooters are very good from 17 feet to beyond the three point line.*
The Huskies must extend their defense to the three-point line in order to reduce the Dons number of three point attempts.*
San Francisco takes 42.8% of their shots around the basket (not Post-Ups) but they are rate below average in converting those shots to points.*
If the Huskies dominate the defensive boards against USF it will go a long way towards controlling the game.
The Dons are not a good transition team, their transition offense rates as only average, so do not expect an uptempo game.
However, if the Dawgs can force tempo with their full-court and half-court pressure, it will likely result in turnovers and be a huge advantage for the Huskies.
Player to Watch
The Dons’ biggest threat is #21 Ioanna Krimili.*
Krimili is USF’s best shooter from deep and she is a deadly catch-and-shoot player from three-point distance.
The Huskies defense must account for Krimili by attempting to disrupt passes to her, or reduce her attempts by overplaying her side before the ball is swung to her.
If the Dawgs can neutralize Krimili it will be a big blow to San Francisco’s offense
USF Should Have No Defense For Dawgs
Overall, San Francisco is a poor defensive team.
The Dons are weakest in man defense and press defense, so the Huskies should expect a zone most of the night.*
San Francisco is particularly vulnerable to spot-up jumpers, pick & roll offense and cuts to the basket.*
If the Huskies focus on good ball movement and moving without the ball, there should be a lot of easy scoring opportunities for the Dawgs.
Our Prediction: DAWGS WIN!
