On February 14th, the Washington Huskies Women’s basketball team lost their road contest with the Arizona Wildcats, 75 – 53.
The Dawgs’ overall defensive statistics were not very good.
Arizona made 75% of their three-point attempts (12 for 16).
The Wildcats also shot 45.4% from two-point range.
Washington’s defense struggled to contain Arizona’s offense throughout the entire game.
The Wildcats scored consistently throughout the game — recording 19 points in the first quarter; 18 points in the second quarte; 20 points in the third quarter; and 18 points in the fourth quarter.
Only one UW player, Nia Lowery, held Arizona offensive players below 50% shooting in their individual defensive matchups.
Lowery individually defended six (6) possessions, while limiting Arizona players to 40% shooting overall.
Therefore, Lowery was clearly the defensive player of the game.
Despite their defensive troubles, other Huskies impacted the game defensively with steals and blocks.
Tameiya Sadler had an impressive four (4) steals.
Both Haley Van Dyke and Quay Miller recorded two (2) steals a piece.
Alexis Whitfield and Alexis (Lexi) Griggsby had one steal each.
And Darcy Rees recorded a team-leading one block.
The Huskies look to bounce back at home this weekend road versus Utah on Friday, February 19th (7pm) and against Colorado on Sunday, February 21st (2pm).
