Chart Analysis: UW WBB Huskies Individual Defensive Performances vs. PORTLAND(12/13/20): Field Goal Percentage Against vs. Individual Possessions Defended
On December 13th, the Washington Huskies Women’s basketball team defeated the Portland Pilots, 83-56.
In their best offensive shooting performance this season, the Washington Huskies shot 64.8% overall against the Pilots — a new field goal percentage record for Alaska Airlines Arena at Hec Ed.
The Huskies made 71.8% of their shots from two-point range and 38.5% from three-point range.
The Portland Pilots only managed to shoot 38.9% overall, although they did shoot 40.9% from three-point range.
Washington actually had one less offensive possession –74– than Portland’s 75 possessions.
Yet the Huskies averaged a season high 1.068 points per possession (ppp); while holding Portland to an average of only 0.747 points per offensive possession.
Portland only managed to score 25 points against Washington’s player-to-player half-court defense (i.e., man-to-man) on 50% shooting overall.
Likewise, Portland also scored 25 points against Washington’s half-court zone defense(s) on 34.5% shooting overall.
Portland only scored 2 points against Washington’s transition defense on 20% shooting.
Washington had multiple outstanding defensive performances.
Nia Lowery and Darcy Rees held Portland offensive players scoreless in their individual defensive matchups.
In 16 minutes of play each, Lowery defended six (6) possessions; and Rees defended three (3) possessions.
Besides Lowery (6), Quay Miller (8) and Haley Van Dyke (6) had the highest defensive possessions defended for the Huskies.
In 29 minutes of play, Quay Miller had the most impressive defensive performance by defending the most possessions individually — eight — while only allowing a 12.5% field goal percentage overall.
In 32 minutes of playing time, Haley Van Dyke had an equally impressive performance by defending six possessions, while only allowing a 20% field goal percentage.
The Huskies will look to continue a high level of defensive efficiency against Oregon on Saturday at Hec Ed.
