The Washington Huskies women’s basketball program scored an important recruiting win Wednesday, landing a verbal commitment from four-star guard Ze’Ni Patterson of Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose, California.

Patterson, a 5-foot-9 combo guard, is ranked No. 86 nationally in the Class of 2027 by ESPN and becomes Washington’s first commitment in the 2027 recruiting cycle. Her pledge continues a strong recruiting trend for head coach Tina Langley, who has now secured at least one top-100 recruit in seven consecutive recruiting classes.

Washington emerged from a competitive group of finalists that included Michigan State, TCU, Harvard, and California. Patterson’s decision gives the Huskies a highly regarded prospect who has built a reputation as one of the most versatile backcourt players in her class.

A standout at national powerhouse Archbishop Mitty, Patterson has steadily elevated her profile through both high school and AAU competition. Playing for Jason Kidd Select on the club circuit, she has consistently faced elite talent while showcasing her ability to impact games on both ends of the floor. Her combination of scoring, rebounding, playmaking, and perimeter defense has made her one of the more coveted guards on the West Coast.

Signs of Patterson’s potential surfaced early. During the Miramonte Peyo Classic three years ago, she posted 17 points, eight rebounds, and four assists against Miramonte, displaying the all-around skill set that would eventually attract the attention of major college programs. Since then, she has continued to develop into a nationally ranked prospect with the versatility to play either guard position.

For Washington, Patterson’s commitment is another significant recruiting victory as the Huskies continue building for the future in the Big Ten Conference. Landing a top-100 player from a program with Archbishop Mitty’s pedigree reinforces the staff’s ability to compete against nationally recognized schools for premier talent.

Looking ahead, Patterson could find an opportunity to make an immediate impact once she arrives in Seattle. With current star guard Sayvia Sellers expected to exhaust her eligibility and pursue professional opportunities following the season, Washington’s backcourt will likely undergo significant changes by the time Patterson joins the program. Her ability to handle the ball, create offense, and defend multiple positions could position her to compete for meaningful minutes early in her collegiate career.

Patterson’s commitment gives Washington an important building block for the future and provides Husky fans an exciting top-100 prospect to follow as she enters her final high school season.
