UW WBB Huskies Land Impact Transfer: Huskies Sign Former Colorado State Guard Brooke Carlson

Washington has added a major backcourt piece from the transfer portal, securing the commitment of Colorado State sophomore guard Brooke Carlson, a dynamic two‑way playmaker who brings scoring punch, toughness, and proven production to the Huskies’ perimeter.

Carlson entered the portal after a strong sophomore season with the Rams, where she averaged 11.9 points, 3.1 assists, and 1.4 steals per game, emerging as one of the Mountain West’s most promising young guards.

Carlson’s stock jumped during Colorado State’s NCAA Tournament appearance, where she delivered one of the top guard performances of the opening round. She put up a career‑high 26 points with six rebounds, three assists, and three steals as the No. 12‑seed Rams pushed No. 5‑seed Michigan State to the wire. It was a clear indicator she can produce against high‑major competition — and a significant reason Washington moved quickly.

Carlson plays bigger than her 5’8″ size — a physical, downhill guard who pressures defenses with her ability to get into the paint, create for teammates, and generate turnovers on the other end. Her scoring efficiency and defensive activity made her a standout at CSU, and she now arrives in Seattle with two-way versatility that fits cleanly into Washington’s evolving roster identity.

For the Huskies, Carlson fills an immediate need: a versatile guard who can both initiate offense and apply consistent pressure at the point of attack. Her ability to score at all three levels, combined with her instincts as a passer, gives Washington another reliable creator who can stabilize possessions and elevate the pace.

Defensively, Carlson’s 1.4 steals per game reflect her anticipation and competitiveness — traits that align well with Washington’s emphasis on length, disruption, and disciplined rotations.

As Washington continues to reshape its roster through the portal, Carlson represents the type of proven, high‑motor guard who can contribute right away. With multiple years of eligibility remaining, it is clear Washington views her as a foundational piece for the Huskies’ backcourt future.

Washington’s portal class keeps getting stronger, and Carlson’s arrival adds another layer of scoring, playmaking, and toughness to a Huskies team aiming for the top of the Big Ten hierarchy.
