Game Recap: Another Blowout Victory as UW WBB Huskies Defeat Pacific, 81-50

In their second game of the 2024-25 season, the Washington Huskies (2-0) defeated the University of Pacific (1-1)in a home blowout, 81-50.

Washington’s high powered offense never quite hit high gear but ultimately overwhelmed Pacific: making 9 threes while shooting 42.9% (9 for 21) from three-point range; shooting 44% from two-point range(22 of 50); as well 43.7% shooting (31 for 71)overall; and 77% (10 for 13) from the free throw line

Washington’s defense was too much for the Tigers offense, as the Tigers only shot 35.7% overall (20 for 56); 37% from two-point range; and 30% from three-point range(3 for 10).

The Huskies interior defense continued to struggle, given their size advantage, by allowing Pacific to make 66.7% of their shot within 4.5 feet of the rim (6 of 9) — a continuing red flag this season.

Offensively, Washington scored 36 points in the paint, and managed only 10 fastbreak points, yet scored 15 points off the Tigers’ 22 turnovers.

1st Quarter

The Huskies mostly traded baskets back and forth in the first quarter but built a small 7-point lead to end the first period.

The Huskies were led by Hannah Stines with 5 points; Sayvia Sellers with 4 points; and Shayla Gilmer with three points; and Teagan Brown and Chloe Briggs added two points each.

The Huskies shot 42.9% overall (6 of 14) and 60% (3 for 5) from three-point range.

2nd Quarter

In the second period, the Washington Huskies began to dominate the Pacific Tigers.

Pacific managed to score only eight points; while Washington scored 18 points on 42.1% (8 for 19) shooting overall; and 20% shooting from three-point range (1 for 5).

The Huskies were led by Dalayah Daniels with eight points; followed by Sayvia Sellers and Elle Ladine with three points each; Tayra Eke and Breann McDonald added two points each.

At halftime, the Dawgs held a 17-point lead over Seattle, 36-19.

3rd Quarter

In the third quarter, the Huskies heated up from three-point range shooting 66.7% (4 for 6), along with 52.6% shooting overall (10 for 19).

The Huskies were led in scoring by Sayvia Sellers with 8 points; Elle Ladine with 7 points; Shayla Gillmer with 5 points; Hannah Stines with 3 points; Tayra Eke with 2 points; and Chloe Briggs added one point.

Washington held a commanding 62-39 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

4th Quarter

In the final period, Washington extended their large lead, despite cooling off offensively: UW shot 20% (1 for 5) from three-point range; as well as 36.8% (7 for 19)overall.

In the fourth quarter, Chloe Briggs led the Huskies with four points; Teagan Brown and Olivia Anderson added three points each; Elle Ladine, Sayvia Sellers, Tayra Eke and Devon Coppinger added two points each.

Sayvia Sellers led the Huskies in victory by scoring 17 points on 75% shooting (6 for 8) overall and 60% (4 for 5) from three-point range, with 4 assists.
