RECAP: UW WBB Huskies Start Slow, Lose Late in 3OT Loss to Arizona, 90-82

The Washington Huskies (13-12, 3-11 PAC) suffered a, 90-82, triple overtime loss at Arizona (14-12, 6-8 PAC), their sixth straight loss.

Performance-wise, the Huskies did not show up on time for the 11am desert contest.

The Huskies failed to score any points for the first six minutes and 28 seconds of the game, as Arizona raced out to a 14 -0 lead.

Despite career high scoring performances by Lauren Schwatz (27) and Savia Sellers (20), Arizona ended the game without much resistance in the third overtime.

Ultimately, the Huskies shot 47.7% from the field overall, making 40% accuracy from three-point range (8 for 20), and 51.1% on two-point attempts(19 for 45).

Overall, Arizona shot 49.2% from the field, including 53.2% from two-point range and 38.9% from three-point range.

Washington’s defense was particularly ineffective inside as Arizona scored 48 points-in-the-paint.

Particularly, Arizona’s Isis Beh was mostly unbothered by Huskies defenders, scoring a career high 29 points in 39 minutes on 90.9% shooting (10-of-11), including 88.9% (5 for 6) on two-pointers overall; 100% at the rim; and 100% from three-point range (2 for 2).

1st Quarter

Arizona led 14-0 before finally scored on a layup by Chloe Briggs.

Arizona shot 47.1% overall and 60% from three-point range; meanwhile UW shot 23.1% overall and 0% from three-point range.

Washington was led by Dalayah Daniels, Chloe Briggs, and Hannah Stines with two (2) points each; and Lauren Schwartz with one point.

Arizona outscored UW, 21-7, in the first period.

2nd Quarter

UW woke up offensively and outscored Arizona, 24-17, in the second period.

Washington shot 83.3% overall (10-12) and 100% from three-point range (3-3) in the second quarter.

Meanwhile, Arizona continued to abuse Huskies defenders by shooting 77.8% (7 for 9) overall and 66.7% (2 for 3) from three-point range.

Lauren Schwartz exploded for 15 points in the second period on perfect shooting, 100% (6 for 6) overall and 100% from deep (3 for 3); Dalayah Daniels added 5 points each; followed by Elle Ladine and Sayviah Sellers with two points each.

The Huskies went into halftime trailing Arizona, 38-31.

3rd Quarter

In the third period, UW edged Arizona in scoring, 15-7.

Washington shot 50% (5-10) from the field and 33.3% (1-3) from deep.

UW was led in scoring by Sayvia Sellers with 6 points; Lauren Schwartz with 5 points; and Hannah Stines with 4 points.

Washington clung to a 46-45 lead heading into the 4th quarter.

4th Quarter

In the fourth period, UW shot 54.5% (6 for 11) from the field overall and 50% (2 for 4) from three-point range.

Meanwhile, Arizona only shot 30.8% overall (4 for 13); 0% (0 for 3) from three-point range.

Yet the Wildcats still outscored the Huskies, 15-14, tying the score at the end of regulation, 60-60.

In the fourth period, Sayvia Sellers led Washington with 7 points; followed by Elle Ladine with 3 points; Dalayah Daniels and Hannah Stines added two points each.

First Overtime

In the first overtime, Washington was led by Elle Ladine with 5 points; Sayvia Sellers with 3 points; and Lauren Schwartz added one point.

UW led 69-64 with 1:24 left and then allowed Arizona to have a 5-0 scoring run to send the game into double overtime, tied 69-69.

Double Overtime

Elle Ladine led the Huskies with four points; Sayvia Sellers and Lauren Schwartz added two points each.

The Huskies and Wildcats were tied at 77 heading into triple overtime.

Triple Overtime

In the third overtime, the Huskies seemingly ran out of gas as Arizona outscored Washington, 13 to 5.

Arizona cruised to victory, 90-82.

Lauren Schwartz led Washington with 27 points (tying her career high) on 53.3% shooting overall (8 for 15) and 83.3% (5 for 6) from three-point range; along with 4 rebounds; 3 assists; and one steal in 53 minutes.

Freshman guard Sayvia Sellers contributed a career high 20 points on 41.1% shooting overall (7 for 17) and 16.6% (1 for 6) from three-point range; along with three (3) rebounds, three (3) steals; and two (2) assists.

The Washington Huskies host Oregon on Friday, February 23rd at 7PM Pacific.
