DAWGS vs DEVILS

SERIES HISTORY

Washington has won the last three meetings between the teams.

However, prior to the Huskies most recent wins, ASU won 23 of 30 previous contests since 2005-06.

Next season, Washington moves to the B1G Conference and Arizona State to the Big 12 — if, how, and when this series will continue is yet to be determined.

Arizona State Offense

The Arizona State Sun Devils offense averages 63.8points per game; while the Huskies defense is holding opponents to 52.1 points per game.

Arizona State is a below average three-point shooting team at 30.1% accuracy from beyond the arc.

Arizona State is averaging 14.9 three-point attempts per game (Bottom 14% nationally).

Currently, the Huskies are holding opponents to 24.8% shooting from three-point range (Top 3% nationwide).

The Arizona State Sun Devils make 41.8% of their two-point attempts.

Jalyn Brown, a6’1″” sophomore guard, is the Sun Devils primary offensive threat and Arizona State’s leading scorer at 16.3 points per game; along with 3.9 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.0 steals.

Brown is shooting a competent 31.0% from three-point range.

Brown is most effective at attacking the rim — she makes 57.1% (40 of 70) of her shots within 4.5 feet of the rim (her efficiency drops to 42.9% from further out in the lane).

Jaddan Simmons is a 5’9″ guard and the second-leading scorer at 11.0 points per game.

Primarily a three-point threat, Simmons makes 36% of her three-point attempts.

Simmons only scores at 44.8% (48 for 78) efficiency within 4.5 feet of the rim; and is even less efficient from farther out in the lane at 36.1% (13 for 36).

Trayanna Crisp, a 5’8″ guard, is Arizona’s third-leading scorer at 10.7 points per game.

Crisp is an excellent scorer from all areas of the court for the Sun Devils.

Crisp is a volume three-point shooter and makes a respectable 33.8% from deep.

On straightaway threes, Crisp shoots a scorching 39.3% (22 for 56).

Crisp is also efficient attacking from midrange (44.8%).

Crisp is not as efficient scoring in the lane — making 48.6% of her shots within 4.5 feet of the rim; and 45.2% of her shots further away in the lane.

Washington Defense

The Washington Huskies will need to disrupt the Arizona State offense by playing stifling perimeter defense on Trayanna Crisp; Jaddan Simmons and Jalyn Brown by: (1) tightly contesting their three-point shots; (2) cutting off their dribble-drive lane penetration; and (3) playing good transition defense;

The majority of Arizona State’s offense comes from inside-the-paint (47.9% – Top 20% nationally); so the Huskies must contest all shots in the and around the lane.

The Dawgs average 3.9 blocks per game — which ranks among the Top 21% of Division One schools nationally.

More generally, the Huskies defense must also dominate and control the inside by remaining active and physical on the boards.

Washington averages 27.6 defensive rebounds per game, which ranks in the Top 17 % among Division One schools nation-wide.

Meanwhile, the Sun Devils average 12.3 offensive rebounds per game, ranking in the Top 32% nationally.

Washington defenders must limit Arizona State’s second chance opportunities with strong defensive rebounding.

Washington Offense

The Huskies are currently averaging 33.6% accuracy from three-point range.

UW has seven players shooting 32.8% or better from beyond the arc :

Chloe Briggs (39.5%);
Elle Ladine (37.8%);
Jayda Noble (35.7%);
Hannah Stines (34.7%);
Sayvia Sellers(34.0%);
Teagan Brown (33.3%), and
Lauren Schwartz (32.8%);

Washington’s offense is also very efficient from mid-range and close range, averaging 50.0% on two-pointers and 60.6% within 4.5 feet of the rim.

Overall, 53.2% of the UW Huskies made shots are the result of their 13.6 assists per game.

Prediction: Huskies Win big!

Washington will defeat the Arizona State Sun Devils by at least 10 points
