The Washington Huskies (1-0) started hot and cooked the Seattle University Redhawks (0-1), 90-43, for a season-opening home blowout victory at Hec Ed on Monday night.
The Dawgs shot 38% from three-point range (6 for 16); 52% overall (35 for 67); and 56.9% on two-point attempts (29 for 51).
UW recorded 58 points in-the-paint versus only 22 by Seattle.
Washington’s defense kept the Seattle offense under wraps most of the game, holding the Redhawks to 28% from the field overall; 20% from three-point range; and 32.5% on two-point attempts.
Washington forced 21 Seattle turnovers, while the Huskies committed 11 turnovers.
UW Players of the Game: Sayviah Sellers and Avery Howell
In 17 minutes of playing time, Sayviah Sellers led the Huskies with 21 points by shooting 69.2% from the field overall (9-13); and 25% from three-point range (1 for 4).
Sellers also recorded six assists, four steals, three rebounds and one block.
In 19 minutes of playing time, Avery Howell scored 18 points by shooting 100% from the field overall (5 for 5); and 100% from three-point range (4 for 4).
Howell also recorded four rebounds.
1st Quarter
In the first period, the hot shooting Huskies offense made 64.3% from the field overall (9 of 14) and 75% (3 for 4) from three-point range.
The Huskies were led by Avery Howell with 11 points; Sayvia Sellers and Sienna Harvey with four points; plus Teagan Brown and Yulia Grabovskaia contributed two points each.
Meanwhile, the Huskies defense struggled to stifle Seattle’s offense early on, the Redhawks scored 13 points on 35.3% shooting overall (6 for 17) and 20% (1 for 5) from three-point range.
The Huskies held a 10-point lead to end the first period, 23-13.
2nd Quarter
In the second period, the Huskies outscored the Redhawks, 26-10.
Washington shot 52.6% (10-19) from the field overall; and 50% (2 for 4) from three-point range.
Meanwhile, Seattle’s offense struggled — shooting 25% (4 for 16) shooting from the field overall; and 22.2% (2 for 9) shooting from three-point range.
The Huskies were led by Avery Howell and Sayvia Sellers with seven points each; Sienna Harvey and Brynn McGaughy with four points each; plus Yulia Grabovskaia and Shayla Gillmer with two points each.
Heading into halftime, the Huskies led by 26 points, 49-23.
3rd Quarter
In the third quarter, the Dawgs posted 24 points on 62.5% (10 for 16) shooting overall and 33.3% from three-point range (1 for 3).
Seattle scored 13 points in the third quarter, on 35.7% shooting overall (5 for 14) and 33.3% from three-point range (1-3).
Washington was led in scoring by Sayvia Sellers with eight points; Sienna Harvey and Hannah Stines added seven points each; and Devon Coppinger added 2 points.
The Huskies extended their lead to 37 points heading into the final period, 73-36.
4th Quarter
In the final period, the Huskies outscored the Redhawks, 17-7.
The Huskies coasted to victory despite only shooting 33.3% (6 for 18) from the field overall; and 0% shooting from three-point range (0 for 5).
In the fourth period, Washington was led by Chloe Briggs with six points; Olivia Anderson added five points; Teagan Brown added 4 points; and Salvia Sellers added two points.
The Dawgs posted a 90-43 victory in front of a sellout home crowd.
