Hannah Stines is averaging nine (9.8) points per game.

Columbia Lions

Columbia’s offense averages 73.4 points per game and are allowing opponents to average only 58.6 points per game.

The Lions shoot 31.4% on three-pointers overall; an excellent (36.7%) shooting threes from thw right corner; and 32.9% shooting on straightaway threes.

Columbia makes 51.6% of their two-point attempts overall; Columbia scores most of their points at-the-rim (61.2%; 397 for 649 attempts).

The Lions shoot 40.7% from further away inside-the-paint (5 feet or more).

Columbia is also very inefficient in the mid-range area (31.5%) with the exception of the left-side midrange area (between the lane and three-point line) where the lIons make 42.9% of their shots.

The Columbia Lions have three players averaging 10 points or more.

Riley Weiss, a 5’10” sophomore guard, averages a team-leading 17.8 points per game; along with 3.4 rebounds; 1.3 assists; and 1.1 steals.

Weiss is a three-level scorer, shooting an excellent 36.9% from three-point range overall; 41.4% on corner three-pointers; 52.2% on right-corner threes and 35.4% on straightaway threes overall.

Weiss is a good finisher at-the-rim (59.1% within 4.5 feet); and 41.8% from further away in the lane (5 feet and beyond).

Weiss is also fairly efficient in the mid-range area, shooting 38.8% overall.

Cecilia Collins, a 6’0′ senior guard, averages 13.7 points per game; along with 5.8 rebounds; 4.6 assists; and 1.4 steals.

Collins is a classic ‘inside-outside” scorer that primarily scores in the lane or from three-point range.

Collins shoots an excellent 70% at-the-rim; and 46.4% from further away in the lane (5 feet and beyond.

Likewise, Collins shoots an excellent 36% from three-point range overall; 40% on straightaway threes overall, including 37.5% on left corner threes (limited attempts).

Kitty Henderson, a 5’10″‘ senior guard, is averaging 13.4 points per game; 6.1 rebounds; a team-leading 4.8 assists; as well as a team-leading 2.4 steals.

Henderson is scores almost exclusively in-the-paint: at the rim (60% within 4.5 feet) and 49.3% from further away in the lane.

Henderson is a poor three-point shooter overall (25.5%) but can make right-side straightaway threes (33.3%) and left-corner threes (33.3%) with reasonable efficiency.

To secure the victory over Columbia, the UW Huskies will need to:

(1) contain Columbia’s multi-guard offense with tough perimeter defense to limit and contest three-point shot attempts by the LIons.

(2) contest Columbia’s inside-the-paint offense by preventing dribble penetration, wide open cuts through the lane, and contesting all shots in the lane, including post-ups and dribble-drive shot attempts;

(3) limit Columbia’s offensive rebounds (an exceptional 16.4 average) to 10 or less; and limit their second chance points (an excellent 15.1 average) to 10 points or less;

(4) efficiently execute Washington’s offense to limit turnovers to 10 or less (UW averages 15.1 per game), while forcing 10 or more turnovers by Columbia (13.7 per game); and

(5) make at least 33% of the Huskies’ three-point attempts — with at least eight made threes.

Columbia is a smaller team than the Huskies but will be tough matchup if the Huskies are not prepared to give a focused defensive effort with efficient execution on offense. The Huskies should win this game by 10 pulling away late but this may be a trap game for a Huskies team that is inexperienced in NCAA Tournament play.

Huskies Win Probability: 70%
