On Wednesday morning, the Washington Huskies (7-2) defeated the Southern University Lady Jaguars(0-7), 61-43, in the Baha Mar Thanksgiving Hoops Tournament in Nassau, Bahamas.
Washington shot 50% from the field overall (24 for 49); and 30.4% from three-point range.
The Dawgs held Southern to a lowly 22.7% from the field overall and 29.2% from three-point range to pull away and secure the blowout victory down the stretch.
1st Quarter
In the first period, Washington was led by Hannah Stines with eight points; Sayvia Sellers with six points; Tayra Eke with five points; Elle Ladine with three points; Chloe Briggs added two points.
In the first quarter, the Huskies shot 66.7% overall (8 of 12) and a blistering 71.4% (5 for 7) from three-point range.
Southern struggled from the field, shooting 20% overall (3 for 15) but made 50% (2 for 4) from three-point range.
The Huskies held a 12-point lead to end the first period, 24-12.
2nd Quarter
In the second period, Southern only shot 23.5% from the field overall; and 20% (1 for 5) from three-point range.
Meanwhile, the Huskies offense misfired with UW shooting 40% (4 for 10) shooting from the field overall; and 25% (2 for 8) from three-point range.
The second period was a stalemate as both teams only managed to score ten points.
The Huskies were led by Elle Ladine with five points; Sayvia Sellers with three points; and Dalayah Daniels added two points.
Washington took a 12-point lead over Southern into halftime, 34-22.
3rd Quarter
In the third quarter, the Washington Huskies edged Southern in scoring, 13-12.
The Huskies shot an improved 54.5% (6 for 11) from the field overall but made 0% (0 for 3) from three-point range.
Washington was led in scoring by Hannah Stines with five points; Sayvia Sellers, Dalayah Daniels, Tayra Eke and Chloe Briggs added two points each.
The Huskies held a 13-point lead heading into the final period, 47-34.
4th Quarter
In the final period, the Huskies pulled away from Southern for good, with a 14-9 scoring advantage, to win 61-43.
In the fourth period, Washington was led by Dalayah Daniels with six points; Hannah Stines with five points; Elle Ladine added two points; and Tayra Eke added one point.
UW Player of the Game: Hannah Stines
In 38 minutes of playing time, Hannah Stines led the Huskies with 18 points by shooting 40% from three-point range (2 for 5); and making 70% of her shots overall (7 for 10).
Hannah also recorded a team-leading six assists with four rebounds.
