The Washington Huskies (6-2) will face the winless Southern University Lady Jaguars (0-7), on Wednesday, November 27th at 8a.m. at Baha Mar Convention Center in Nassau, Bahamas (on FloSports Network).
The Washington Huskies are coming off their best game performance of the season (based on level of competition), after losing by a single point in the final seconds against #7-ranked LSU.
Ironically, Southern University is probably the worst opponent offensively that the Huskies have faced this season.
The Lady Jaguars are not effective from anywhere on the court.
Southern struggles from three-point range (shooting 26.7%), midrange (29%), in-the-paint (28.9%); and at-the-rim (45.7%).
Meanwhile, the Huskies are shooting 35.4% from three-point range, as well as 51.3% from two-point range plus 70.7% at the rim.
Southern has one player averaging double figures in points per game.
Aniya Gourdine, a 5’9″ senior guard, is their leading scorer at 12.4 points per game, along with 5 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.9 steals per game.
Gourdine is an efficient three-point shooter (33.3%) that also is effective scoring in the lane (41.2%).
Aleighyah Fontenot, a 5’9″ senior guard, is Southern’s second-leading scorer at 8.0 points per game plus 2.6 rebounds, 1.3 steals, and 1.0 assist per game.
Fontenot is not an efficient scorer from anywhere on the court, but is most effective shooting straightaway three-pointers(25.6%).
No other player scores more than five points per game for Southern.
To secure the victory over the Southern University Lady Jaguars, the UW Huskies will need to:
(1) Control and dominate inside-the-paint offensively and defensively with their significant frontcourt height advantage;
(2) play aggressive perimeter defense to force turnovers and push tempo to score in transition and wear down Southern with the Huskies’ depth of quality guard play; and
(3) Defensively limit and contest the three-point attempts of Southern’s leading scorer Aniya Gourdine, as well as prevent her dribble penetration into the lane.
The Washington Huskies should dominate this game from start to finish and win by 25+ points.
Huskies Win Probability: 99.9%
